April Athlete of the Month

Name: Alissa Warpinski

Age: 32

Where did you grow up? Appleton, WI

When did you become a member at RedDoor CrossFit? October 2016

What do you do when you are not at RedDoor CrossFit? (occupation, hobbies, etc.)
I work as the Director of the Enrollment Services front desk (Academic Advising, Admissions, Financial Aid and Registrar offices) for UW Green Bay. I love spending time with my family and wouldn’t be able to live without the Packers. (Only 5,000 people ahead of me on the season ticket list!)

How did you find out about CrossFit?
A fitness-ey friend of mine had started. I look up to her, so I wanted to give it a try too. I started with community classes at CFGB.

When did you realize CrossFit is right for you?
When I was sore for a week after my first class. I hadn’t been that sore in a long time and it felt good.

What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Tire flips! And deadlifts. I also enjoy pull-ups when I can butterfly them.

What is your least favorite WOD/movement?
Kettlebell snatches… I like my wrists unbroken…

What would your perfect WOD look like?
I like the long ones that several different movements, and you just have to keep moving.

What is one thing you have done at RedDoor CrossFit that you never thought you would do?
I was super excited to get my first bar muscle up!

What motivates you during a CrossFit WOD?
Hearing Sophie yell “Go mommy go!” and being able to see my progress.

What is something about yourself that we might not know?
I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling. Also, I have run 11 half marathons. 12 if you count the one in the Half Iron triathlon. And 2 full marathons.

What advice would you give to someone just getting started with CrossFit?
RX is not better than scaled. Everybody had/has to scale at some point. Its not about what the other people in the gym can do, its about what YOU can do.
